How do I know which filament yarn is best for my application?

That is a good one. UHMWPE and para-aramid are very different yarn chemically and physically. As different as white and yellow, literally. Their properties are different as well. In some cases, the end use environment dictate the choice of yarn, for eg, boat armor would require a water buoyant material such as UHMWPE. In other cases, the threat would dictate which yarn is more effective. Talk to us --our Engineers are trained to guide you through.

There are so many types and variants of raw material yarn - this is confusing.

It sure can be.Our job is to make your job easier. We sift through the myriad types of UHMWPE yarn, and chose the best one for your application. So you don't have to worry about what yarn type, and focus on your strength - your product.

Which raw materials does Akiro Protech use in its products?

Don't be swayed by trade names. We qualify the best grade UHMWPE yarn fit for your application, slap stringent incoming quality control tests, and only the best gets used. Akiro Protech guarantees you the performance of its product, so that you don't have to worry about which. yarn, which resin or which film we use. Starting Sep 2023, we are setting up our ballistic lab for quality control of every lot that is produced.

What prepregs do you make?

Para aramid or UHMWPE woven fabrics are scoured, finished and coated with proprietary rigid resin matrix is called a prepreg.

These prepregs when cured at the indicated temperatures and pressures result in composites with exceptional rigidity, stiffness and impact properties. We use phenolic poly vinyl butyral, ester resins, neoprene, SIS and other resins to make our prepregs and coated fabrics.

When do I use prepregs, and when do I use UD?

Our UD fabrics do not feature stiff resins that may be required for some applications such as rigid helmets, or other platform armor.

So we weave high performance fabrics, scour, finish and then coat them with proprietary resin systems to provide the desired stiffness and rigidity.

Which prepreg should I use for my appication?

Really depends on your end use. Talk to our applications Engineers to understand your application better.

Ideally our UHMWPE based prepregs cure at temperatures as low as 120C. Our aramid prepregs cure at higher temperatures than that.
